Rangoon, Burma. C. 1945-08. RAF official interpreter, Flight Lieutenant W. W. Hassall of Lancaster Gate, London, whose family live in Sydney, NSW, communicates with the two Japanese aircraft by radio telephone, from the control tower at Mingaladon airfield, Rangoon. The two Japanese aircraft, Allied code name "Topsy", were carrying the Japanese surrender envoys and were escorted by two squadrons of Spitfire fighter aircraft to the airfield where high-ranking officers of the RAF and the Army were awaiting the surrender envoys.
