Description
Apoka Valley, Papua. 1943-01. Tents of the 135th Medical Regiment, U.S. Army, just after arrival at the site of the future 750-bed Port Moresby Evacuation Hospital. Construction began on 1943-02-03 and the hospital was wholly constructed, apart from roads and water reservoirs, by the Regiment. The hospital was run by the 135th with close co-ordination with the Australian Army Medical Corps.
