Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a Special Order from Headquarters, 363 Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, United States Air Force, to Squadron Leader Alan Raymond Reed inviting him to be attached to the wing for service in Vietnam from May 1968.

History / Summary

Squadron Leader Alan Reed, a fighter pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force, was on exchange with the United States Air Force in 1968. He was flying and instructing on the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II when, with the approval of the Australian government, he was invited to serve with the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron on operations in Vietnam.

Reed served in Vietnam from 26 May to 20 November 1968, flying low-level reconnaissance missions over South Vietnam, North Vietnam and Laos. For his service with the USAF, Reed was awarded the United States Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster.
