Description

Broken weapons spill out of shipping containers in the ruins of Qala-i-Jangi fortress. A 19th-century fortress located near Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan, Qala-i-Jangi is known for being the site of a bloody 2001 Taliban uprising named the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi, in which at least 470 people were killed, including CIA agent Johnny "Mike" Spann. One of a series of photographs taken by the David Savage, an Australian advisor to the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).
