Description

A 3 inch calibre, Mark II T, high explosive, projectile as used in the 20 hundredweight anti-aircraft gun that was in service (with various modifications ) from 1914 to 1945. The projectile is 270 mm long and has a diameter of 76 mm with a 60 mm diameter threaded nose fuse insertion hole. The hole is fitted with a nose cap (no fuze fitted). The projectile is painted black with a 28 mm wide red band over a 9 mm black band over a 14 mm red band. The colours indicate a shrapnel filling. There is a 16 mm copper driving band located 28 mm above the base. The base is fitted with an 18 mm length of exposed tracer container.

Example of an Australian Second World War munitions product made by the Maribyrnong Explosives Factory in Victoria. Stamps and marks show the case was made in 1942 and re-inspected for use in 1945.
