Vietnam. C.1965. RAAF Squadron Leader L.R. Klaffer (in slouch hat) with crew members of the 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron (TRS), the USAF unit with which he flew more than fifty missions over Vietnam and Laos, pictured on the day of his return to the US to commence training another F-4 Phantom unit, the 9th TRS. Two of the Americans in this photograph (second and fourth from the left) were subsequently killed on a night mission near Vinh in North Vietnam. (Donor L.R. Klaffer)
