Outdoor portrait of two Australian Prisoners of War (POW) at German POW camp Preussisch Holland, East Prussia (now Paslek, Poland). Identified on left is 3449 Private (Pte) William Cleave Robinson Alexander Doig, 16th Battalion, from Fremantle, WA and on right is 5797 Pte George Henry Theodore Standing, 16th Battalion from Perth, WA. Pte Doig enlisted at the age of 24 on 17 August 1915 and embarked for overseas on 1 November 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. He was wounded in the left hand and captured at Riencourt, France on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW in various camps. Pte Doig was repatriated to England on 1 January 1919 and arrived back in Australia on 17 October 1919. Pte Standing enlisted at the age of 24 on 28 February 1916 and embarked for overseas on 11 July 1916 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. He was wounded in the hip and hand and also captured at Riencourt, on 11 April 1917. Pte Standing was repatriated to England on 31 December 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 30 May 1919. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London.
