Description

Outdoor group portrait of repatriated Australian and New Zealand Prisoners of War (POW) with an unidentified woman at Murren, Switzerland. Six POWs are from a staging camp in Murren and the rest are from a camp at Interlaken, Switzerland and are awaiting repatriation to England. Five New Zealand soldiers can be identified by their ‘lemon squeezer’ hats. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London. Original album housed in AWM Research Centre at RC00864, Album image number 259.
