Description
Postcard of accommodation at Chateau d’Oex, Switzerland where exchanged Prisoners of War (POW) were billeted prior to their repatriation to Britain. A number of Australian POWs called this place home for some time. The handwritten note on the back of the postcard reads “Chateau d’Oex – the home from home for “Our Boys”. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London. Original album housed in AWM Research Centre at RC00864, Album image number 261.
