Collection relating to the Vietnam War service of 146839 Major Toby Dix St George, Citizen Military Forces, Vietnam, 1971.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of one typed memoir of Major St George's two weeks in Vietnam from 21 January to 4 February 1971. The memoir was written between 1997 and 1998. The memoir first summarises his service from 1950 with various unit across Australia. St George applied to complete a tour in Vietnam and, after passing a medical examination, was accepted for a two week tour. The memoir details his journey from Brisbane to Nui Dat, Vietnam, activities and operations in Vietnam including the Tet Offensive and preparations for a five day ambush, and return to Australia. Entries refer to 1 Task Force Command Post, the Vietnamese landscape, the Viet Cong, Centurion tanks guarding the rubbish dump so Viet Cong could not take valuable items, The Horseshoe area, food and ammunition rations for the ambush, malaria pills, rubbish disposal while on patrol, visiting the US military assistance team at Hoi My, the new fire support base, rations and ammunitions, and visiting base units such as RAEME, Signals, Ordnance, and Service Corps. St George also mentions the incident that lead to the death of Private Alan Talbot and Private Raymond Pattern, and includes a retrospective look at his time in Vietnam and information about his return to the country in 1991 as a CSIRO scientist.
