Crosley, William T. (Civilian internee, b.1897)
Collection relating to the internment of civilian William T. Crosley, in Singapore during the Second World War, 1942-1945.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a 26-page hand written letter, dated 10 October 1945, describing Crosley’s experiences as an internee of the Japanese for three years. Crosley, aged 49 years, was working in Singapore with the large company Boustead & Co., when Singapore fell to the Japanese. He was interned at both Singapore's Changi camp and Sime Road Camp. Crossley describes the scant food rations, living conditions, health, events leading up to the announcement of peace, and subsequent liberation.
The letter is addressed to Mary Grant Bruce ('Mrs Bruce'), a resident of the boarding house 'Sunningdale' in Croydon, Victoria, during the Second World War. Crosely's Australian wife Freda also resided at Sunningdale during the war.
