History / Summary

This medal was awarded to 425330 Flying Officer Stanley Whitesides Mason, of Irongate via Pittsworth, Queensland, who served in Bomber Command as an air gunner and instructor with 49 Squadron RAF and 463 Squadron RAAF. The citation for this award states : 'Flying Officer Mason has taken part in many sorties, including attacks on Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. He has destroyed two enemy aircraft. This officer's coolness under fire and accurate marksmanship have been largely responsible for the successful completion of numberous sorties'. Flying Officer Mason enlisted on 1 February 1942 and was demobilised on 5 June 1946.
