Japan. c. 1942. Portrait of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief, Combined Fleet. Admiral Yamamoto was a dominant personality in the Japanese navy and was the author of the plan to attack Pearl Harbour. In April 1943 he was killed when the bomber he was travelling in from Rabaul to air bases in the south of Bougainville was shot down by American fighter aircraft.
