Description

Collection relating to the Gulf War, United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) in Iraq, United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNAMET), and Operation Slipper service of O130092 Commander Ian Parker CSM, Royal Australian Navy, 1991, 1998-2002.

Wallet 1 of 3 - Consists of a notebook and documents related to Lieutenant Ian Parker's service in the 1990-1991 Gulf War with Clearance Diving Team 3. The wallet includes Parker's EOD Operations Identity Card, a USAREUR/USAFE ration card, and Parker's notebook. The notebook contains reminders, calculations, and notes on and sketches of Iraqi equipment and ordnance (including the Silkworm missile). The wallet also includes copies of four documents by Chief Petty Officer Eugene Maxwell on, respectively, the re-activation of Clearance Diving Team 3, its embarkation for Bahrain, and service in Kuwait during the Gulf War.

Wallet 2 of 3 - Consists of a UNSCOM decal, Parker's UNSCOM identity card, and nineteen documents related to Parker's deployment on Operation Blazer as an inspector with UNSCOM in Iraq in 1998. The documents include pre-deployment briefs on Operation Blazer, briefing documents on the role and activities of UNSCOM and the expectations for inspectors, Parker's pre-departure list, information from Iraqi customs, Parker's welcome document and UNSCOM authorisation form, and teams lists.

Wallet 3 of 3 - Consists of two folders containing material from, respectively, Commander Ian Parker's service with UNAMET in 1999 and deployment on Operation Slipper as Executive Officer of HMAS Kanimbla in 2001-2002. Folder 1 contains a pad of unused UNAMET ballot papers. Folder 2 includes examples of ten leaflets regarding Osama bin Laden, which were dropped over Afghanistan, and an Australian Defence Force 'Reminders for Media Interviews' card.
