Burma. c. 1942-03. RAAF members packing suitcases and sitting inside a thatched shelter in the final stage of an evacuation. Allied air forces were withdrawn from Burma when Japanese ground forces captured Rangoon on 8 March 1942. Left to right outside the hut: Phil Graebner (Gunner Ken Gardiner's observer), Gunner Cliff Briggs, Gunner Ken Gardiner and McDade. The man reading inside the hut is McDade's observer Don Page who was killed a few days after this photograph was taken. (Original print housed in the AWM Archive Store).
