Kabakaul (?), New Britain. c. 1914-09-12. Two mourners beside the grave during the funeral service for Able Seaman W.G.V. Williams RAN, born Melbourne 1885, believed to be the first Australian shot in the war. He died 11 September 1914 from a wound received that morning from a German bullet during the advance to capture the German wireless station. (Donor O. Greaves)
