Souvenir tobacco tin, 'Frae Scots tae Scots' : South Africa 1900
Description
Souvenir tin with a hinged lid. The lid is painted yellow, with a gold border. Much of the paint has worn off the base of the tin, but it appears to have also been gold in colour. The lid is decorated with a thistle in the centre, with the lion rampant within a shield on the thistle's right. To the left is the text 'SOUTH AFRICA 1900' in black. Above the thistle is 'Frae Scots tae Scots' and below 'For Auld Lang Syne'.
History / Summary
Souvenir gift tin sent by the Scottish Regiments' Gift Fund to Scottish soldiers fighting in the Second South African (Boer) War. The tin is empty, but when originally sent it contained tobacco.
