Description

Khaki cotton drill short-sleeved shirt with back yoke, stand and fall collar, placket front fastened with three brown plastic buttons (top button missing) and a pair of patch breast pockets. Each shoulder is reinforced with an additional layer of fabric that carries three embroidered eyelet holes to support shoulder boards with rank insignia (not present). The inside neck carries a printed cotton lable 'MADE BY DAVID JONES LTD SYDNEY, N.S.W.' and is stamped in unk 'R.A.N. MADE IN AUSTRALIA'.

History / Summary

Khaki tropical clothing was approved for theRAN in February 1943. Officers received an allowance to subsidise the cost of new uniforms, but many ratings had intitially had to dye their white uniforms with varying success.
