Pleiku, South Vietnam. Sergeant Vu Tuan Anh (left) watches Do Trong Tien, who also served as a squad leader with the 33rd Regiment of the regular North Vietnamese Army, trace the route their unit followed through Laos into South Vietnam. Tien, 22, is from the village of Thuong Thu, Thuong Tinh District of Ha Dong Province, near Hanoi. With two fellow North Vietnamese soldiers, he voluntarily surrendered to Government forces near Duc Co in the Central Highlands. Their 300-man unit made the journey from North Vietnam in three months travelling by foot through Laos and Cambodia over the Ho Chi Minh trail. Each man carried forty four kilograms for seven hours a day.
