Description
Kure, Japan, 1950-07-21. At the funeral for 2/3534 Private (Pte) L.E.J. White, BCOF Provost Unit, an army truck stands waiting to serve as a hearse, as 2/40103 Padre Alan Walter Arthur Laing (at right) emerges from the church leading the coffin bearers who are carrying Pte White's coffin draped in the Australian flag. At left, a guard of honour made up of members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), presents arms. Pte White's body will be conveyed to the Kure railway station for transportation to the Yokohama Military Cemetery, where the burial will take place. (Compare images P01813.065 & 146466)
