Kure, Japan, 1950-08-15. Marching on parade, Australian troops serving with BCOF salute an official party, standing on a dais at left, which includes the Prime Minister, the Honourable Robert G. Menzies. The officer leading the parade is 4/8000 Major Archibald Frederick Phillip ('Arch') Lukyn, while the other officer saluting behind him is 2/40097 Captain Sverre Witzo ('Fred') Ness. Left to right on the dais are: Air Commodore A.M. Charlesworth; Menzies; Lieutenant General H.C.H. ('Red Robbie') Robertson, the Commander-in-Chief of BCOF; Brigadier I.R. Campbell, Commander of the British Commonwealth Base Kure. The officer standing off the end of the dais next to Campbell is 3/169 Lieutenant Colonel Floyd Stanley Walsh, Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). Above the dais, the Union Jack and Australian flag hang limply from flagpoles. The Prime Minister was making an official visit of inspection to Australian units serving with BCOF in the Kure area.
