Portrait of 82 Squadron Leader Bernard Barton “Barney” Cresswell, commanding Officer of No 76 Squadron RAAF. Cresswell was killed on 17 April, 1942 while flying a 75 Squadron aircraft on an early morning reconnaissance mission over Lae, New Guinea. His aircraft crashed into a hill after being intercepted by Japanese Zeros. He is buried in the Lae War Cemetery.
