Description
Laverton, Vic. 1944-11-14. Informal group portrait on the airfield at RAAF Station Laverton of the crew of the veteran Avro Lancaster bomber aircraft 'G for George'. This aircraft had been withdrawn from operational duty in the UK after completing ninety operational missions over Germany and occupied Europe while on the strength of No. 460 Squadron RAAF. It was then flown to Australia to be taken on the RAAF Register as A66-2 and became the main attraction during a tour of the eastern states of Australia in 1944-11 in support of the Third Victory Loan. (The aircraft 'G for George' is now in the AWM collection).
