Description
Salamaua, New Guinea. 1941-12. A crowd stands on the airfield watching women and children board the tri-motor Junkers 31 aircraft VH-UOV owned by Bulol Gold Dredging Ltd. This aircraft evacuated women and children to Australia, following the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbour. The final evacuation of the remaining inhabitants of Salamaua took place on 24 January 1942.
