Description
South Melbourne, Vic. c. 1944. A woman operates a small engine lathe making collars for apple parers. She was working in the Smith & Searle factory which was owned, managed and operated by women and which employed only one man. The factory made parts, some precision, for munitions projects and also parts for fruit canning machinery.
