Bendigo, Vic. c. 1944. A woman employee of the Commonwealth Ordnance Factory conducts hardness tests on a 250lb semi-armour piercing aircraft bomb by measuring the rebound of a pellet dropped in the tube. Many stages of this production, including heat treatment in salt bath furnaces, is carried out by women at the factory.
