Description
Hiro, Honshu, Japan, c. 1948-05. Members of the 67th Infantry Battalion sit at tables and chat over cups of tea in the Salvation Army hut at the Hiro military camp. The hut provides refreshments and recreation for Australian servicemen serving with BCOF. Standing behind the counter in the background are a European woman in uniform (left), who may be a Salvation Army representative, and two Japanese waitresses (right). A sign in the background (left) reads: 'Recreation Centre. Light refreshments will be served until -. Hot lunches will be served until -.' Another sign in the background (right) reads: 'Tea must not be taken to lounge.' Ashtrays are set out on all of the tables in the room. (Donor I. Robertson)
