Kure, Honshu, Japan, 1948-11-20. Soldiers of the 34th Australian Infantry Brigade salute as they march past the saluting base (at left) during the brigade's last parade through the streets of Kure. The officer taking the salute is probably Lieutenant General H.C.H. ('Red Robbie') Robertson, the Commander-in-Chief of BCOF. The soldier leading the parade is possibly Captain David Victor ('Vic') Mentiplay, while the soldier marching immediately behind him may be Lieutenant Allan George Grimsey. At rear, a large crowd of soldiers and civilians watches the parade from the footpath and the arcade and roof of a large building. Flying from flagpoles at left are the Australian flag, the Union Jack and possibly the New Zealand flag. Note the child sitting on the edge of the roof at top left. (Donor I. Robertson)
