At sea. c.1940. Group portrait of a merchant navy gun crew on the deck of the Australian troopship HMT Zealandia. Left to right: back row: Angus McLeod, Douglas Evans, Chief Officer E.J. "Paddy" Cloke, Tom Rees and unidentified. Front row: Tommy Drinkwater, Jimmy Archbold and unidentified. Note the gun on the stern. This first Australian merchant navy gun crew trained at Rushcutters Bay, NSW. The Zealandia was later sunk on 19 February 1942 during the Japanese air raid on Darwin. (Donor T. Rees)
