Hiro, Honshu, Japan, 1948-12-25. Members of the 67th Infantry Battalion, part of the Australian component of BCOF, are in jovial spirits as they drink glasses of beer at the conclusion of their Christmas dinner in the soldiers' mess. The soldier sitting at left with a glass of beer in his right hand is 3/487 Lieutenant (Lt) John Arnold Warr, while the man sitting at extreme right is 1/9915 Sergeant Len Lenoy, an Aboriginal serviceman. The soldiers standing facing the camera at extreme left and extreme right respectively are Lt James John Thompson and 2/45200 Corporal Vince Bennett. Resting on the table are numerous bottles of beer, porcelain mugs, salt and pepper shakers, pieces of fruit and tins of Craven "A" cigarettes. The ceiling of the mess is festooned with streamers.
