Hiro, Honshu, Japan, c. 1948-12-26. Dressed in motley sporting attire, members of the 3rd Battalion, The Australian Regiment, wait in line to take their turn in a sporting event during a sports carnival on what may be Boxing Day. Note the two-toned plimsolls (sandshoes) on the soldiers' feet. At left, two soldiers are wearing greatcoats to keep themselves warm. The 3rd Battalion, serving with BCOF, was formerly the 67th Infantry Battalion and would soon become the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). (Donor I. Robertson)
