Description
Hiro, Japan, 1950-09. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), crowd around several flamethrowers which they are about to test at a firing range. At left, 2/37566 Lieutenant Allan William Power is holding the flame gun of one of the weapons, while standing at far left is a Japanese civilian employee. The soldiers are to practise using the flamethrowers in preparation for 3RAR's imminent move to Korea from BCOF. Note the sign in the left background which refers to the range as that of the 67th Infantry Battalion, even though this unit had been renamed the 3rd Battalion almost two years before. (Donor I. Robertson)
