Hill Salmon, Korea, 1951-04-16. Members of the Intelligence (or Sniper) Section, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), sit in a shallow trench after the battalion's capture of Hill Salmon from the Chinese. The soldier wearing a hat (second from bottom) is the Section Leader, Corporal Don Nurcombe. On the earthen bank in front of the trench are opened tins of food, a mug with a folding handle made from the base of an American water bottle, and a bread roll sitting on a ration box. A .303 sniper rifle with its telescopic sights removed rests against a tree at centre, while the soldier behind it reads a map. Behind him, wearing a beret, is a bearded soldier who is probably a Forward Observation Officer (FOO) for the 16th New Zealand Field Artillery Regiment. (Donor I. Robertson)
