Description
Group portrait of members of Pioneer Platoon, 2/19th Battalion. The Battalion was captured by the Japanese in the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942 and most of the men were killed in action (KIA) or held as prisoners of war (POW). Identified from left to right, back row: Private (Pte) NX55100 Hector John McLean (POW); NX56542 Pte George Hutchinson (POW); NX35921 Pte Alan Francis Foo (POW); NX36003 Henry James ‘Harry’ Hubbard (POW); NX35246 Pte Joseph Cody Palmer (reported missing presumed KIA in Malaya on 22 January 1942); Pte Lee; NX32638 Pte John Francis Pettit (POW); NX56118 Pte Kenneth Eric Burt (KIA in Malaya on 19 January 1942).
