Description
Korea, c. 1951-02. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) (left), load a wounded Australian soldier aboard a US Army Bell 47D-1 Sioux helicopter utility which stands in a snow-covered field. The helicopter, bearing the nickname 'Nooks' and a red cross on its front, is fitted with skids and panniers or pods on each side for evacuating casualties. An American serviceman, possibly the pilot of the aircraft, is standing at extreme right. (Donor I. Robertson)
