Description
Kure, Japan, 1950-09-27. At Kure docks, a crane lifts a 17-pounder anti-tank gun belonging to the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), aboard the United States Navy troopship Aiken Victory. Beneath the artillery piece, a Bren gun carrier stands ready to be hoisted aboard the ship, while Japanese wharf labourers wait near it to help with the loading. Other military vehicles are lined up at rear, awaiting their turn to be loaded aboard. The building in the background contains the offices and stores of the Docks Operating Company, and also the BCOF Stationery Stores. The Aiken Victory is about to transport 3RAR to Pusan and the war in Korea. (Donor I. Robertson)
