Description
Korea, c. 1950-10. Korean refugees trudge along a road lined with poplars as they return home to their farmlands liberated from North Korean forces by the allies in their breakout from the Pusan perimeter. At right, a man leads a cow or bullock which is heavily laden with household goods. Behind him, another man piggy-backs a child on his back while, further back, women and children refugees move to the side of the road to avoid the dust that two military vehicles, a jeep and a truck, are throwing up as they pass by. The road had been built by the Japanese and was elevated above the surrounding rice paddy fields to make it passable during the wet season. (Donor I. Robertson)
