Description

Korea, c. 1950-10. As a huge US Army truck looms up on the road behind him, a Korean refugee boy steadies his pony which is pulling a cart or wagon laden with household goods. The boy is returning home to his family farm after the repulse of North Korean forces by the allies in their breakout from the Pusan perimeter. Standing on the side of the road (right) are a member of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), and a soldier from the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army. The road, lined with poplars, had been built by the Japanese and was elevated above the surrounding rice paddy fields to make it passable during the wet season. (Donor I. Robertson)
