Description
Korea, c. 1950-10. Carrying bundles of household goods on their heads and backs, a stream of Korean refugees moves past the camp (background, right) of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). The refugees are returning home to their farmlands which have been liberated from North Korean forces by the allies in their breakout from the Pusan perimeter. Accompanying the refugees are several ponies laden with goods and, at right, a cart or wagon. One of the refugees (lower right) is wearing a traditional Korean horse-hair hat, shaped like a top hat, which is a mark of his authority in his village community. (Donor I. Robertson)
