Collection relating to the service of NX34734 Reginald William James Newton
Description
An informal group portrait of new recruits known as ‘giggle suiters’ in the 2/19th Battalion. It was their first week with the battalion. Identified but positions not known are: NX25943 Private (Pte) Arthur Charles Haywood (later Lance Corporal and held as a POW); NX55610 Pte (later Sergeant) Henry Shearer; J Smith, possibly NX35950 Pte Joseph Smith (later killed in action in Malaya on 15 February 1942); NX51980 Pte Lester Raymond Lees (later Corporal and held as a POW); NX53219 Pte Samuel George John 'Piccolo Pete' Boyd (POW).
