Korea, c. 1951-03. Informal group portrait of the cooks of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), together with the Officer Commanding C Company, 2/40097 Captain Sverre Witzo ('Fred') Ness (standing in slouch hat, centre), and a Korean boy mascot (front). The group is posing with some of the cooks' equipment in front of a Korean thatched cottage. At left are some metal dixies and a field stove with a flue rising from it, and at right two 44-gallon drums, a bucket and a cylinder of petrol for heating the stove. In contrast to the correct army dress of the senior officer, most of the cooks are wearing fur-lined windproof jackets and an assortment of headgear, including pile caps, slouch hats, a beanie and a cap.
