Description

Hill 614 area, Korea, 1951-02-23. A group of soldiers from C Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), link hands to form a human chain as they haul a stretcher carrying a wounded comrade, 2/2192 Corporal (Cpl) Don S. ('Joey') Wilson, up a steep snow-covered slope. The hill was so steep that six men were on each stretcher handle advancing on command one step at a time. From this position, it was about 60 metres to the bottom of the ravine. Cpl Wilson was wounded in both legs in an assault on Hill 614 held by Communist Chinese troops. The soldiers are wearing windproof jackets and pile caps as protection against the severe cold. (Donor I. Robertson)
