Description

Hill 614 area, Korea, 1951-02-23. A group of soldiers from C Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), pause for a break as they haul a stretcher carrying a wounded comrade, 2/2192 Corporal (Cpl) Don S. ('Joey') Wilson, up a steep snow-covered slope. The soldiers around the stretcher are, left to right: Private (Pte) John Davies; Pte J. Young; Pte Pat Murphy who was later killed in action at Kapyong. Cpl Wilson was wounded in both legs in an assault on Hill 614 held by Communist Chinese troops. He is covered by a blanket and has the flaps of his pile cap folded down around his face to keep him warm. The other soldiers are wearing windproof jackets and pile caps as protection against the severe cold. (Donor I. Robertson)
