Description
Korea, c. 1951-02. Outdoors group portrait in the snow of an unidentified section from Battalion Headquarters, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), which may be about to go out on patrol. The man in the centre of the front row is a Korean interpreter serving with the battalion. The practice of employing interpreters in the battalion came to an abrupt end when it was later discovered that this man was an enemy deserter. All of the soldiers are wearing pile caps and most have on windproof jackets. With the exception of the interpreter who is unarmed, the men are carrying either Owen submachine guns or .303 rifles.
