Description

Korea, 1951-02. Two members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), relax on the verandah of a Korean farmhouse prior to moving up to the front around Hill 614. The soldier at left is Warrant Officer 1 W.J. ('Bill') Harrison, the Regimental Sergeant-Major, whose right foot is resting on one of several ammunition boxes lined up in a row. The other soldier, one elbow resting on a jerry can, is reading a copy of the 'War Cry', the newspaper published by the Salvation Army in Australia. A kitbag and .303 rifle lean against the front of the verandah, while other bags lie stacked up at rear (left). Signs have been scratched on the wall of the building, including one that indicates the direction of the 'RAP' or Regimental Aid Post. (Donor I. Robertson)
