Description

Pakchon area, North Korea, 1950-11. Wearing tam-o'-shanter hats, members of the 1st Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, pick their way on stepping stones across a stream as they pass through the position occupied by the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). The Argylls, who are carrying their weapons and full kit, are moving forward to patrol east of Pakchon. Following the leading two Argylls are three porters from the Republic of Korea (ROK) Service Corps, while at left a long line of Argylls waits to cross the stream. The truck standing at right is the mobile Command Post of 3RAR's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ian Bruce Ferguson. Known colloquially as 'Pandora's Box', the truck later had to be destroyed in the withdrawal from Kapyong. (Donor I. Robertson)
