Description
Pakchon area, North Korea. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), walk in single file along a dirt track in the Korean countryside as they make their way up to the front. The soldier wearing glasses at centre is 4/186 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Francis L. ('Specs') Raffen, a Bren gunner with B Company, while the soldier immediately behind him is Sergeant Tom Buckley. L/Cpl Raffen, who is carrying a Bren gun over his shoulder, later died while on active service with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV). (Donor I. Robertson)
