Description
Korea, c. 1950-10. With his Owen submachine gun slung over his shoulder, a sergeant from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), helps a pony hauling a heavily-laden cart or wagon up a steeply sloping track from a riverbed. The soldier, who may be Sergeant 'Obie' O'Brien, is leading the pony by a rope bridle while, with his other hand, he steadies a small load on the animal's back. The horse and cart belong to Korean peasants who are returning to their farms after the repulse of North Korean forces by the allies in their breakout from the Pusan perimeter. In the background, tents, jeeps and trucks mark the site of 3RAR's camp. (Donor I. Robertson)
