Description
Namibia. c.1989-11. A long white building on an open sandy site operates as a polling station in the north of Namibia. Dressed in camouflage uniform, Staff Sergeant John Delai, head of the polling station (squatting) and Lieutenant Brent Maddock (standing with hands on hips) stand outside the building discussing the location for a requested ordnance clearance. In the foreground is the back of a United Nations (UN) Buffel MPV (Mine Protected Vehicle) covered by green shade cloth to protect passengers from the fierce sun. Delai and Maddock are members of the second Australian contingent to UNTAG (United Nations Transition Assistance Group) who provided security for the elections in the form of a Ready Reaction Force.
