History / Summary
Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal to Major General George Frederick Wootten. In June 1953 Wootten's name was among the Victorian recipients that was published in local newspapers with the medals to be posted out. The medal was classified as an official medal and was to be worn on the left breast on all occasions that awards and medals were worn.
It was issued to, among others, deserved members of the civilian community. Wootten had distinguished himself in both world wars and at the time of the coronation, he chaired the Repatriation Commission in Melbourne. He retired from the commission in 1958.
